Dr Maureen Mooney PhD

Maureen, a clinical psychologist trained in New Zealand and France, has 18 years’ experience in humanitarian psychosocial programming and disaster response. In her 2011 sabbatical year, she became a research officer in the Joint Centre for Disaster Research (JCDR), Massey University and member of an academic advisory group on psychosocial recovery following the Canterbury Earthquakes. Her ensuing doctorate focused on what factors fostered positive coping in the recovery of children and youth following these earthquakes. Her interest is in how children, within their families and communities, cope effectively with adversity, and how we can promote contexts where children and families thrive.
